Stipple is a free service that lets publishers label and monetize the content inside the pictures on their sites.
If you're a publisher, or maintain a blog, you can sign up for a free account and we'll send information on how to start using Stipple on your site.
When publishers use Stipple, they are given the ability to enhance their site's pictures with information about the people, places and things within them.
It's very easy. Just add a line of JavaScript to your site. That's it.
After activating Stipple, publishers are able to quickly label objects in their photos using inline editing controls on the pages where their photos are normally publicly visible. The publisher can place small dots anywhere inside the picture and add some basic information to them. The next time a reader mouses over a picture, dots will appear semi-transparently, letting them discover that additional information. If the reader is interested in something, mousing over the corresponding dot will reveal the added details in a minimal overlay that immediately disappears once their mouse leaves the dot.
Stipple can be used to display any information that you want to share with your visitors. Examples could include: What shirt is that guy wearing? Who's that girl? What headphones is she wearing? How much does that guitar cost? What club are those people partying at? And so on. To answer these questions and more, you add small, unobtrusive Stipple Dots that appear when a visitor mouses over a photo.
No. You can choose to label to some pictures and leave others blank. It's totally up to you.
You have lots of images on your site and not all of them (your site's logo as an example) should be tagged. Choosing a targeting method helps Stipple know which images you want to label and which should be left as is.
It depends on how much information you want to share. Adding a single, simple label normally takes about 5 seconds. Just load your page like you're reading it and you'll see inline editing controls.
Yes there is. Click here for a quick demo.
This happens for two reasons mainly. The first is that the site is using the wrong site ID to load Stipple. The second is that the URL of the site has not been added within the Stipple dashboard. Using the correct site ID and making sure the URL has been added in the Stipple dashboard should resolve this error.
Just open the Edit menu on the dot you want to get rid of and click Delete.
The Stipple experience is designed to be seamless and unobtrusive and the interaction is always controlled by the user. Stipple dots only appear when someone mouses over a picture. When a user chooses to interact with a specific Stipple dot, by placing their mouse over the dot, an information box appears. The information box will automatically disappear when they move their mouse away from the dot. Always helpful, never annoying. That's the Stipple Way.
When someone shops from a Stipple Dot that's part of a campaign, your site will receive a commission based on what the brand has decided to pay to publishers displaying their products.
Revenue will be different for every site. Variables like: how many photos you label, what you label, how many users you have, and how often users shop from Stipple dots all affect your site's revenue. But you can't make any money at all until you start using Stipple.
You need to make sure you add dots to your photos on the pages where they are publicly visible. If you add dots from within your blog's or CMS's password protected dashboard, for example, your friends will be sent a link to that page rather than the page where your photos are actually visible. We're working on a way to better address this issue, however until then please only create dots from publicly reachable pages.
